Story Assignment

Evelyn Hernandez
Story Draft

Trixie is a girl a little different from the rest of her high school mates. She wears bright colors and wardrobe that could make a person go blind from the bubble gum saturated hues. She spends her time listening to music at school rather than hanging out with the rest of the students. She has good grades at school and finishes her work in class. People see her as a very out casted individual and prefer to make fun of her instead of befriend her for their own sake. She clearly just doesn’t fit in with the rest which sometimes can be a little scary during any teen’s high school years. High school is not only your stepping stone into college and adulthood, but it is the test and breaking point of those who learn to adapt or be shunned of into the dark corners or high school social life.

Colored Different

It’s 10pm on a Friday night. Music is playing in Trixie’s colorful stuffed animal filled room. Trixie is looking in the mirror as she applies her makeup. Glancing into the mirror she has a flashback, Trixies locker. Her locker written all over with comments such as “color freak” “Trixies BF is a rainbow Unicorn”. Trixie continues from her split memory and slips on her bracelets, turns off the music, closes her laptop and walks out of her room. She walks into the kitchen were on the table lies a kitchen knife and water bottle. Trixie looks over at her mother who is preoccupied in the kitchen. Trixie grabs her water bottle and walks out. The door shuts and her mother turns around. She looks over at the clock displaying 10pm and just nods her head worriedly.
At school during lunch time, the tables are full of students chatting and eating in large groups, except for one table. Trixie’s tables where she sits alone, listening to music and eating. Every so often a kid will pass by and taunt her by flicking her plate or food, and calling her names.
10:30pm and Trixie walking down a dark road path. Looking around observing her environment she notices a car with the words “Kandi Land” written on the windows. At sight Trixie’s mind sparks the memory of her class mates driving slowly on a car with the words “rainbow weirdo” painted on the window and them taunting her. The road ends and continues onto a scraper high cliff at the end with the sight of the beach down below. Trixie slowly walks up to the end of the cliff. She stands at the very edge and then with her eyes closed she opens up her arms and takes a deep breath. The moment goes silent for a few seconds. 2 people suddenly emerge and come up behind Trixie and cause her to turn around. Trixie runs towards these brightly colored neon glowing exotic looking individuals who happen to be her friends waiting for her. They take Trixie past the cliffs and down a small path that leads them to the sounds of electronic music and flashes of exotic colored lights in the distance along the cliffs.

Character Backstory:

Trixie is currently a high school student. Trixie is currently a senior and is getting ready to graduate high school to move on with life and continue into college. Trixie is a bit of an outcast because of the way she dresses and expressers herself at school. Although she does have some friends, most of the people look at her strangely and comment on the music she listens to and wardrobe she wears because it is too extravagant. Trixie being a strong minded girl who has the obviously has the drive and independence of being different understands what she might be losing on and sometimes wonders why she is too different. This sometimes puts Trixie down, unknowing of the fact that in high school most just want to fit in to not be alone or in the same spot as she is currently.

Tollbooth Experience

Driving up to the toll booth Trixie slows down to stop. “Aww great” she says to herself. Trixie turns down her music and dance session and begins looking for money. Scattering through her glove box, bag and pockets she finds nothing. She mutters “hmmm well what am I supposed to do now”. She looks out the windows to see if there is anyone else passing by, which there wasn’t. She goes up to the machine and starts banging on it lightly to see if it will open the gate. She stops the banging, goes back out and sits in the hood of her car, hoping that someone stops by and gives her the change. A car finally drives up. Trixie gasps, and looked over with her eyes full of shock and joy. The man in the car put in his quarters. He looks over and see her staring right at him. He looks, knowing that she must need money his eyes go into shock as well. Trixie still looking in shock begins to get off her cars hood when suddenly, “Screech” the tires of the man in the stopped car peel and he takes off before the lever completely lifted itself to the top. She puts her head down in a tired manner. Some other person pulls up in an expensive car. She runs to him asking him for money. The man wearing his sunshade looks over at her and questions, “I don’t know… what I am getting in return from this”. “Sir, I don’t think there is much to ask for, all I need are 5 little quarters to get me past this booth” Trixie says.  She continue, “Please sir just help out a young girl in trouble”. “Clean my windshield” he said. She replies, “What! You have to be kidding me!”. “Clean my windshield I said” say the man once again. She grabs a squidgy from his trunk which he probably has back there to make other girls do the same. She begins cleaning his windshield. While doing it she is looking at him in an angrily manner, knowing this guy was doing this on purpose just to get a little trill of being a meanie. After finishing the window cleaning, she comes up next to hum with her palm out. Having her eyes closed and smiling with success she leans over a bit. “Screech” the car takes off on her. She pops open her eyes and he disappeared. Trixie throws a fit and goes up back to the machine. With cheeks blown up in anger and she tightens her grip. “you, you!” “Meanie machine!” she screams. Blitzer winds back and throws a kick at the machine. “Wham” she throws a kick which sends her crying after hitting solid metal. Trixie jumps into a pain spell as she immediately begins hopping on one foot and holding the hurt foot in pain. Suddenly while hopping Trixie hears the ding of the gate opening. She looks over and there is a girl around her age that had just put in the 5 quarters for Trixie’s gate to open. Trixie runs over and gives her a huge hug, “thank you so much, you do not even know how long I’ve been here”. The girl responds “no, but kicking a solid piece of metal explains a lot”. “They both begin laughing. Trixie turns around and notices that the doors closed again, and the other girl just looks at her and laughs, “Yes I have more quarters to spare”. “Here you go, and please do not go around kicking any pieces of metal”. Trixie hands the girl number “here, call me when you get stuck on a toll road, haha”. ‘’for sure ha” said the other girl as she took off. Trixie also jumps back in her car and finally drives past the poll safely and legally.
